Who is Andrew Newton?
Getting to know each other
I am an enthusiastic story nerd who loves reading and writing, with an eye for detail and a passion for helping people make their work the best it can be. I am an English and philosophy major who enjoys research and writing both fiction and non-fiction. I live in Rockford, Michigan, with my lovely wife and I am pursuing graduate studies with the goal of becoming a professor of English. My favorite current author is Neil Gaiman, and I have too many favorites from generations past to pick just one. My favorite thing about editing is watching the beautiful story, article, paper, etc. emerge from the manuscript and grow to its full potential.

Proofreading
Final polish for your piece
I offer proofreading for manuscripts of any length and virtually any topic. I will make sure your grammar and punctuation are the best they can be and point out sections that may need to be worded more clearly. Together, we can make sure your work is as polished as possible before you send it off to its next destination.
Editing
Getting what you say to match what you mean
I offer editing on all levels. From rewording troublesome sentences to reorganizing paragraphs or even entire chapters, I will work with you to make your manuscript as clear and coherent as possible. My goal is to make the end product convey exactly what you want it to. I will fact check and suggest areas that could use additional content as well--anything I can do to make your project the best it can be.
Writing
Original content and ghostwriting
While I mainly work with your words, I have been known to write my own from time to time. If you want content for a website, articles on specific topics, blog posts, opinion pieces, etc., I would be happy to talk with you about your project and see if my style fits your needs. If you have something you want to write, but don't enjoy doing the actual writing, or just don't have the time to make it happen, we can talk about ghostwriting too. This can be a good option for memoirs and autobiographical pieces in particular, but I am willing to discuss any type of project. For samples of my writing, you can visit my blog here.
Feedback and Critique
Big picture, plot points, structure, and more
If you don't want to jump into anything as intensive as editing just yet, but want feedback on the broad strokes of your piece, I will happily read it and provide as much detailed feedback as I can. From plot points and structure to reader engagement and reading level, I will do my best to give you critique in the areas you request, offering constructive criticism about what doesn't work, and pointing out what does work and why.

Education
I graduated magna cum laude from Grand Valley State University in 2018 with a BA in English Language & Literature and Philosophy. In addition, I graduated from the Frederick Meijer Honors College at GVSU, and was a 2018 Undergraduate Research Scholar with the university's Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship. While at GVSU, I received multiple awards for my writing, as well as presenting my work at several conferences, both at GVSU and across the country.
Experience
In addition to my studies and personal papers, I worked with GVSU University Libraries as a peer research consultant. As a research consultant, I assisted students with every step of their research papers, from brainstorming and research to citations and formatting. I am familiar with MLA, APA, and Chicago styles, and I have worked with Turabian and ASA as well. I have written and maintained a blog for several years where I have written on a variety of topics. In addition to my academic experience, I currently work with Creative Enterprises Studio as a freelance editor and proofreader for the Christian book market.
